Holly

April 22, 2011 – What you are about to read and see will anger and sicken you. Late this afternoon Agent Jan Palmer discovered Holly, a 6 year old Beagle/Jack Russel Terrier. The Humane Society received an anonymous tip from a concerned observer. Holly had been living in a rabbit hutch outside. While outside in the hutch she somehow got her leg caught and twisted in the wire bottom floor. While she struggled to get herself free, Holly broke her leg. Her owners, unwilling to provide her with medical care, hid her inside the house in the basement. In pain, brave Holly did the only thing her instinct to survive demanded; she chewed her own leg off. The male owner told Agent Palmer, “I thought she was going to die for a few days, but she didn’t.” Holly was taken immediately to the Veterinarian’s office. Her leg bone is exposed and the remainder will need to be amputated Monday morning. She is on a strong antibiotic and pain reliever so she can rest comfortably at the Vet’s office tonight. We will keep you updated as soon as we know more from the Vet in the morning. I want all who read this to be vigilant and call if you suspect animal cruelty or neglect. For every Holly of the world, there are dozens of others that suffer in secret. To report animal cruelty or neglect call Agent Palmer at 330.831.2613

April 23, 2011 – A camera crew from WKBN came to meet Holly and do a story about her.  Click here to see the video and read the story. Holly hopped around with her tail wagging for the camera.  What a brave girl!

April 27, 2011 Just a short video of Holly. Her surgery was only 36 hours ago.

May 5, 2011Holly visited an admirer at The Steel Trolley Diner Marketplace. She loved sniffing through the stores many tasty offerings and took particular JOY in carrying around a Zagnut bar….which she was not permitted to eat!! Chocolate BAAAADDD!! Thanks to STD owner Jacki Fristik Hersman from Holly’s new pink blanky, big yummy bag of Beggin Strips and donation to help Holly’s friends at the shelter!! We shed a few tears but had many more laughs as Holly romped and played!! She then paid a little visit to the Courthouse parking lot where she charmed everyone she met!! She is doing well and has adjusted completely to life with 3 legs. We should take a lesson from her.

May 9, 2011She doesn’t miss a step without her leg. Hopefully by Wednesday her cone can come off. As for Holly’s case, it has multi-issues. HSCC is still in consultations with our Humane Agent and the Prosecutor’s office.
