Humane Education & Community Service

Thank you for your interest in the humane education program at HSCC. At its most basic level, humane education is about learning to care for the animals in our homes and communities. It is about fostering kindness, respect and empathy for both human and non-human animals, and looking after the environment and its diverse habitats.

Shelter Tours
HSCC currently offers tours of our shelter to small groups including youth groups, home school groups, service clubs, etc. Each group visiting will receive a brief presentation about the Society. Participants will have a chance to interact with selected adoptable animals while touring our animal shelter.  A question and answer session will follow each tour.

Group Presentations
Select staff members and volunteers are available to give presentations to your school. Presentation topics can vary based on your needs and interests.

All of the above programs and presentations are offered at no fee; however we do ask that groups complete a special project to earn a tour or presentation. Project ideas include creating animal-related art projects/stories, pet supply drives, coin drives, bake sales or an animal read-a-thon where students get pledges or school credit for each book about animals and compassionate, humane living they read. To schedule a tour or presentation, please call 330-332-2600.

Earn Community Service Hours
The Humane Society of Columbiana County does accept volunteers who need to complete community service hours.  Please call 330-332-2600 to sign up for an orientation time.
